A Rainy Day Craft

It’s that time of year again, and the weather is unpredictable.  So to save yourself a headache, and probably a little frustration — and plan ahead!  Make sure you always have a few indoor craft ideas in your back pocket so when the time comes, you’ll be prepared.

Here’s a fun project you can do that will help your preschooler learn their colors, practice their motor skills and give you something cute to put on the fridge door.

Here’s what you need:

  • Googly eyes

  • Construction paper in all colors of the rainbow + white

  • Glue stick

  • Scissors

  • Black Marker

Step 1: Cut the Cloud Out

This part is easier if you draw the outline of the cloud using a marker and then let your little one cut it out.  This is a great way to get a little bit of hand/eye coordination practice in there too!

Step 2: Cut the Strips

As you’re cutting each color, talk it through with your child.  This is an excellent chance to make this fun craft that much more educational and reinforce colors.  There’s really no limit to the number of strips you need because you can always layer the colors.  Use this opportunity to chat it up with your toddler.

Step 3: Glue the Strips

Add a little bit of glue to the tip of the trips and adhere the strips to the bottom of the cloud to form a rainbow.

Step 4: Add the Face

This step really takes this craft’s cuteness to the next level.  Glue your googly eyes to the cloud and take the black marker and add a little smiley mouth.

If you want to get SUPER fancy, you can buy a magnet and glue it to the back of the cloud so you can keep it as a refrigerator embellishment forever!
